The 1985 Mongoose M-1.

The new 1985 M-1 is the most affordable 20" Mongoose® bicycle model ever. The M-1T™ combines renown Mongoose® engineering, dependability and performance features into a quality BMX machine priced like an ordinary bike. The M-1 is equipped with performance features like hand crafted heliarc welded frame and fork with rugged extra large diameter top and down tubes for greater strength. High performance components include good looking Pro Steel™ Wheels*, chromoly and alloy full clamp stem, Pro style steel handlebars and "bear trap" BMX pedals. The M-1TM even features two complete braking systems. The dependable, pedal operated coaster brake and a responsive rear hand brake. The M-1 is available in chrome with black accessories and in white with black accessories.

Mongoose BMX serial numbers.
The serial number is found under the bottom bracket. The first character is the factory code M = Merida.

Second character is year of production. 4 = 1984, 5 = 1985. Production would have most likely started around May 1984 through to Aplril 1985.

Third character is month of production. A = January, B = Febuary, C = March, D = April, E = May, F = June, G = July, H= August, I = September, J = October, K = November, L = December

Made in Taiwan.
As a general rule, bikes made in Taiwan had around a 8 month production lead timeline before they were delivered and sold in bike shops around the world. Generally around May of each year, factories would switch production to making models for the following year.
