Founded in 1974 by Dan Hangsleven and Gary Harlow (the "D" and "G") in Anaheim, California, DG Performance Specialties transitioned from motocross to BMX racing. They manufactured high-end chromoly frames for roughly seven years, dominating the late '70s with iconic models like the DG Californian and Expert.

Drawing from their motorcycle racing background, DG was famous for producing some of the strongest front ends in the sport. Their California Pro models often featured heavy-duty, "moto-style" forks that allowed early racers to tackle jumps with far more confidence than the modified beach cruisers of the era.
