JMC started manufacturing BMX bikes in the late 1970's. Jim Melton founded the company, which like many BMX brands at the beginning of the BMX era, it started as a bike shop. In 1985 Jim closed down the company due to a down-turn in the popularity of the sport, his wife's health issues and not wanting to move production out of the USA.
