The 1985 Eric Rupe Signature Edition is a production version of the Factory Works bike that Eric Rupe piloted to his second consecutive National #1 Pro title in the National Bicycle League. The Rupe Signature Edition is unparalleled in quality, componentry and performance. Extra large diameter heliar welded 4130 chromoly tubing is fabricated into a frame set that provides more ground clearance, more knee room and the most precise controllable geometry in Mongoose® history. Premium race-proven components include patented Pro Class™ Series III Hard Anodized Wheels*, sealed bearing hubs. Pro Class™ Chromoly Handlebars and the new Pro Class™ Stem with "thru-the-bolt" cable routing capability. The serial number is found under the bottom bracket. The first character is the factory code M = Merida.
Second character is year of production. 4 = 1984, 5 = 1985. Production would have most likely started around May 1984 through to Aplril 1985.
Third character is month of production. A = January, B = Febuary, C = March, D = April, E = May, F = June, G = July, H= August, I = September, J = October, K = November, L = December
Made in Taiwan.
As a general rule, bikes made in Taiwan had around a 8 month production lead timeline before they were delivered and sold in bike shops around the world. Generally around May of each year, factories would switch production to making models for the following year.
