The 1997 Mongoose Menace Cruiser features a competition high tensile looptail frame available in chrome only with a chrome 1 inch hi ten fork, Mongoose alloy 4 bolt stem, Mongoose 2 piece handlebar, Mongoose PVC grips. Mongoose alloy side pull brake on the front, Shimano alloy Canti brake on the rear with Mongoose alloy levers, Mongoose 36 hole alloy rims with Formula hubs and Mongoose blur tyres. Mongoose cro-mo 1-piece crank with a 42 tooth sprocket, Mongoose composite pedals, 26.0 millimetre seat post, Mongoose padded flight seat and 3 bolt seat clamp.

Mongoose mid school serial numbers.
The most common serial number format contains four characters at the beginning. The first two characters (letters) are the factory code. The third character (letter) indicates year of production. Fourth characters (letter) indicates month of production. The remaining numbers are the individual frame numbers and not part of the date sequence.

As a general rule, bikes made in Taiwan had around an 8 month production lead timeline before they were delivered and sold in bike shops around the world. Generally around May of each year, factories would usually switch production to making models for the following year.
