For '97 the Expert Comp features a Mongoose race ready cro-mo looptail main frame in chrome or matt ice graphite, paired with a chrome 1 inch cro-mo fork, Mongoose alloy 4 bolt stem, Expert handlebar, Mongoose Kryton grips. Shimano CT-91 Canti brake on the rear with alloy Mongoose lever, Mongoose 36 hole alloy rims with alloy Formula hubs and Mongoose blur tyres. Mongoose heat treated 1-piece cro-mo 175 millimetre crank set with alloy 44 tooth chain ring and spyder, Mongoose alloy comp pedals, 26.0 millimetre seat post, Mongoose racing seat and 3 bolt seat clamp.

Mongoose mid school serial numbers.
The most common serial number format contains four characters at the beginning. The first two characters (letters) are the factory code. The third character (letter) indicates year of production. Fourth characters (letter) indicates month of production. The remaining numbers are the individual frame numbers and not part of the date sequence.

Made in Taiwan.
As a general rule, bikes made in Taiwan had around an 8 month production lead timeline before they were delivered and sold in bike shops around the world. Generally around May of each year, factories would usually switch production to making models for the following year.
