The 1987 General Sidekick was the more affordable Scooter model in the range. It featured a HI-TEN frame and fork. 14" Fiber reinforced Nylon mag wheels and a choice of Chrome, Green, Lavender, White/Pink and Yellow colour ways.

General BMX serial numbers.
There are a number of possible serial sequences. The first one or two characters is the factory code: W, T or DS.
After the factory code, the next character is year of production. 6 = 1986, 7 = 1987. Depending on the factory, production may have started around June 1986 through to May 1987.
After the year is month of production. 01 to 12 = January to December

As a general rule, bikes made in Taiwan at this time had around a 5-8 month production lead timeline before they were delivered and sold in bike shops around the world. Sometime around the middle of each year, factories would switch production to making models for the following year.
